Chequered Frame

You will need
An image of your choice
A corner image (optional)
I used a dingbat available here

To begin we will make the chequered pattern.
Open your chosen image in psp and choose a light and dark colour from it.
Go to gradients > foreground/background > Angle 45 > Repeat 3 > Linear Style.

Open a new image 200x200 pixels.
Fill with your gradient.
Click View > Show Grids
The image should be gridded out into squares.
To change the size of the squares click view > Click Grid, guide and snap properties.
I used a 25 by 25 grid.

Now click view > Snap to grid. (so it is faded out)
Snapping to the grid saves you having to carefully select the area.
Go to your selection tool
and select rectangle shape > feather 0

Now select every other grid square, with just a small movement of your mouse, holding down
the left button. Ensure you are on ADD mode.
Once I had selected all the squares I created an alpha selection for future use.
Just go to Select>Load Save Selection> Save selection to disk. Call your selection something
and it is always there for you.

Now add a bevel to the selected squares.
